Give a Kid a Book was launched in January of 2022 by Alex and Elliot P. So far, Give a Kid Book has collected more than 10,6000 books and made donations to organizations in the D.C.-metro area that help children in need, including the Latin American Youth Center in DC and Prince George’s County, Second Story in Fairfax County and Community Family Life Services in DC.
Our principal partner is the Arlington Food Assistance Center, where we organize giveaways once or twice a month. In 2023, AFAC named Give a Kid of the Book one of its Community Partners of the Year. Arlington Magazine also awarded Alex an Extraordinary Teen Award in 2023.
Where your donations are going:
- 250 books to the Statesmen College Preparatory Academy for Boys in Southeast DC
- 300+ books to the Latin American Youth Center‘s after-school programs in DC and Prince George’s County
- 500+ books to DC’s Community Family Life Services BOOK BASH
- 900+ books to Fairfax County’s Second Story and the United Way of the National Capital Area for giveaways at community vaccine clinics
- 225 elementary books and early readers to Books Are Food for Your Brain
- 80 high-quality board books and chapter books to Comfort Cases, which prepares care packages for children entering foster care
- Two donations (1000+ books total) for classroom libraries at Dogwood Elementary School in Reston
- Bimonthly giveaways to clients of the Arlington Food Assistance Center (more than 10,600 books and counting)
